What if Black excellence begins with taking excellent care of yourself?
Kandace has long been recognized as a gifted writer. Her love of words was first noticed by her mother, who nurtured it through enrolling her into writing camps as a child. After years of schooling & academic writing, Kandace has returned to the page for herself, for her own healing, and as an extension of Hello Kandace, LLC.
Her voice as a poet emerged in 2023, following the quiet ache of loss— the ending of her marriage. In 2024, she made a promise to herself: to share one poem each month at open mics across Indianapolis. What began as a challenge became a practice of becoming—helping her discover and uncover a part of herself that had been there all along.
Kandace’s poetry and meditations invite stillness, reflection, and reverence for the sacred beauty of Blackness. Her language is both mirror and medicine—turning pain into possibility, grief into growth, and presence into prayer. Through grounded rhythm and vivid imagery, her work creates space for readers and listeners to pause, breathe, and remember their own truth & witness the truth of others.
Her work is not performance—it is witness. A practice of honoring healing, ancestry, justice, and the slow unfolding of authenticity within systems that often resist it.
Kandace is currently a contributing writer for a forthcoming poetry book initiative called, Keep in Mind: —A collaborative mental health project that unites advocates, students, professionals, and those with lived experience to create a poetry book highlighting the diverse experiences, struggles, and triumphs within mental health. Her writing will also appear in the 2026 Winter Edition of Hope + Wellth Magazine. In 2014, she was the second author of a peer reviewed academic article, published in the Journal of Religion and Health.
